law enforcement agencies, government agencies and independent developers have been searching for non-lethal and less forceful methods of subduing criminals and enemies. The use of tasers, rubber bullets and various gases and sprays, and all beings, investigated to find out how much damage, both short and long term, they do. Some of the newest and most promising devices are being developed using an existing flashlight feature - strobing LED light.

While it may seem a little silly to think that a pulsating light can be a criminal intent to violate the law or the violence, it is actually very effective. Just think of how confusing it can be when a bright light is suddenly in a dark room. Most people will squint or turn your head, when suddenly the light was introduced. In many cases, that's all an officer needs to have the upper hand.

The light-emitting diode, or LED lamp is well suited for this type of application. We most often come into contact with these lamps in our electronic devices. They are the type of bulb, so you know that the device is switched on. In the last ten years they have begun to play a greater role in everyday lighting. They are prominent luminaries in the world of outdoor lighting equipment (think flashlights, lanterns and headlamps). There are many cities that are starting to replace their standard light which, with the LEDs. These lamps are also known as home lighting replacement bulbs and around the landscape design. LED bulbs burn much brighter, with less energy, are very durable, last for longer spans of time and can be used in a variety of colors.

Strobing lights have the effect of confusing communication between our eyes and our brains. This forces them to someone looking to cover themselves or flee from the pulsing of the light. Police officers were with flash flashlights for several years as a means to stop the escape of suspects stunning and confusing. CBS News recently ran a story on what is called the LED Incapacitator. This LED lamp strobing takes this concept to the next level, without the inherent advantages of LED light. It uses some specific light frequencies that the brain and then cycles through the frequencies are too fast for the brain to adapt. The light also shifts by different colors for an additional confusion. This new tactic of the police lights are bright enough in bright environments as well as the dark.

Not only are these helpful tactical flashlights for law enforcement and the military, they are also considered beneficial for personal defense. Strobing LED Flashlights are available to the public for use in their own security. By pressing the button, a general LED flashlight can be turned into a strobing light in the event of an attack, while in a parking garage or walking home at night. The pulsating light may be a few seconds away, or call for help. Some who do not pepper spray to find this an excellent alternative.

Strobing flashlights and torches are innovative and potentially life-saving. Since the new devices are for our uniformed professionals, we can see more and more derivatives of these products available to the public.
