There was little more than a year since my Nightingale-Conant audio seminar: the law of large numbers: HOW TO MAKE SUCCESS inevitable.
It is a good sale, happy secession royalties received from each author and publisher enjoys.
But it would probably do even better if I had discovered a small quote from Thomas Watson, the legendary founder of IBM.
"If you want to be successful," he voiced, then "double failure rate."
In this pithy proposal, Mr. Watson sums up much of the wisdom that I try to convey in about six hours of pure listening pleasure.
The law of large numbers says that if you have enough of something that you will succeed. Do more than, and get rich. Do more, and you will become a legend.
Watson's contribution to this idea is to make it clear that we are not a lot, that failure is not something to be dreaded, but invited.
Any scientist will tell you that error, especially in the process of controlled experiments, are starting materials for breakthroughs. Chronicle errors, what does not work, and creating a database of false starts, setbacks and winning bet flops and can not guide us, which eventually gets positive results.
Leading scientists at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC recites this lesson for me when I give them a lesson objectives Management System, part of the largest civilian marine management training program in history, more than 18,000 managers trained in 18 months .
If you're not on the level of success that you want to check the failure rate. It may be too low.
Go out and nothing more. You learn a lot in the process, and you set the law of large numbers to work!
