you would be hard mention" "Sleuth" a film in the strict sense of the word, despite the valiant attempt by director Kenneth Branagh, the film a visual style. Based on a play, film, and a former version of Quick-quick-witted story of two men trying to outplay each other, offers some very rich and entertaining performances from both Michael Caine and Jude Law as the only cast members. The story is engaging and entertaining to keep you guessing until the end. Only a softer the third act and the fact that the story is entirely in one place remains "" Sleuth "" behind the brand, just after this film, you can see how good a theater production would have.
Michael Caine plays Andrew Wyke, a rich mystery writer who invites the younger Milo Tindle (Jude Law) in his house for a chat. It turns out they are both sharing Wyke woman. Tindle seeks Wyke in force, his wife a divorce, they may together with Tindle. Wyke agrees, but only after Tindle develop a plan leads to a "robbery, the effect of Wyke, which will be freed from his wife and Tindle gets what he wants. It sounds smooth sailing, until the game begins escalating wildly out of control, and these two smart, ruthless men play each other's strengths and weaknesses, until one of them at the end is dead.
The absolute strength of this film lies in its writing and performances. The dialogue in the first half of the film is nothing less than brilliant, apart from witty and intelligent, it is very amusing. Both Michael Caine and Jude Law to increase the material far beyond the already large home to something very charming and sinister all at the same time. For example, the moment when Michael Caine is angry, your hair stand on end, as you see how he played Tindle all the time. However Tindle gets its own by staging an elaborate Prank Wyke on which more than compensates for Wyke, which to him. Tindle Prank of the identity of police inspector, suspicious of the Wyke transgressions is highly effective and dramatic. The film will be in this pattern, each man tries to the other, until a rather gloomy conclusion.
The first two acts of the film are the strongest. In the first act, Wyke is a Tindle. In the second act, Tindle is a backup copy on Wyke. Watch as men, it is worth seeing all on its own. It is well written and well acted and with great use of the only place in the film. Unfortunately, the steam in the third act, that they do not necessarily coincide with the height of what comes before. The proposal of a homo-erotic relationship between men, the shooting culminated in Wyke Tindle feels somewhat out of place and not on the quick-witted Quick-edge that the previous acts in the film had.
Despite the fact that "Sleuth" "can not be past its roots in a place of theater, the director Kenneth Branagh has done a fantastic job creating some remarkably creative and eerie visuals. The combination of production design, photography and lighting gives the Wyke Manor a worrying feeling that is more than an addition to the reckless behavior of the two characters. The shots are very inventive in particular, a shot from a series of drinking glasses, which completely blocked the door to the castle, such as Jude Law walks in is very impressive and unique.
"" Sleuth "is a good opportunity to get an hour and a half, but I felt the dramatic impact would have more clearly see this as a play than a film.
