The California Puppy Lemon Law, in spite of the more specific name, is not limited to small dogs only. It includes cats and dogs, and there are no age parameters. The California Puppy Lemon Law refers essentially to the California Health and Safety Code. It deals specifically with a cat or dog's health at the time of purchase.

In essence, California Health and Safety Code Section 122125-122220 Code defines the term "PET-dealers" of cats and dogs. Section 122125 states that it is a person selling the animals in a retail basis. He also notes that a dealer requires an official permission for such an undertaking. Other sections define that a "buyer" means any person who buys a pet from a dealer without the intent to sell is.

A dealer is required to ensure that healthy animals are separated from those who are sick. In other words, there should be no doubt in a buyer that purchased the PET is healthy.

The California Puppy Lemon Law also states that a seller needs a buyer to know the benefits of spaying and neutering pets. The buyer has received the written materials. The dealer should also provide incentives for such procedures.

In addition, the dealer must provide documentation of each animal's heritage - the name and address of the breeder or broker. The buyer must also be an animal, the date of birth and a vaccination / immunization / surgical record. The buyer is also a clear statement of diseases that the animal suffers, at the time of purchase.

After California Puppy Lemon Law, the dealer is legally required if:

• The dealer has failed to ensure the specified health standards.

• A licensed veterinarian states in writing that the animal fell ill within 15 days after purchase.

• A licensed veterinarian states in writing, within one year after purchase that the animal has a congenital or hereditary disease which is a comprehensive hospital stay, and from which recovery is doubtful.
